- Even though it is called a ‘Tropical Giant’ this bulb is one of the most cold hardy varieties for a Hymenocallis. It is known for multiplying quickly and surviving freezing temperatures in zones 8-11.
- The Hymenocallis 'Tropical Giant' is often called a 'White Spider Lily' by many in the southern United States. It is called this because the bloom from above looks like a white spider with 6 inch legs
- Plant the 'Tropical Giant' anytime from Spring through Fall. It will produce lovely dark green foliage all summer long and then burst with white, spidery blooms in late summer. This plant makes a great accent plant since it stays green all summer long and at maturity will be 2-4 feet tall.
- The 'Tropical Giant' grows well in zones 8-11 and does best in partial shade to full sun. Plant your bulb with just the top of the neck above the soil line.
- PLANTING: Plant in well-drained soil where the bulb can receive 8+ hours of summer sun. Plant with neck right at surface of the soil. Consider adding a thin layer of mulch when planting during the hot summer months. Water well for the first few weeks so roots can activate and begin to produce foliage.
